A
graduate of Florida International University, Chrystal completed
her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology/Anthropology and
Women’s Studies in 2005. She recently earned her Masters
degree at The George Washington University in Women’s
Studies with a concentration on International Development.
Chrystal has a personal interest in literacy and health care,
believing in the philosophy of empowering people to help themselves.
She enjoys the interdisciplinary nature of Women’s Studies
and its intersection of Race, Class and Gender. Chrystal believes
her educational interests and personal background makes her
fully appreciative of all six New Voices program areas, although
the area of Human Rights most encapsulates her interests.
She is a person of contact on the New Voices team and offers
administrative, event planning and conference support.

Yeon Kang

So
Yeon graduated from American University in May 2005 with a Bachelors
of Arts Degree, majoring in International Studies with a focus
on peace and conflict resolution and Asia and a minor in Japanese.
Before joining AED, she worked at the Intercultural Management
Institute as a research assistant. So Yeon has also worked at
the Center for Global Peace as a marketing/research assistant
as well as at the Center for Asian Studies as a program assistant.
So Yeon's current focus on the New Voices team is on Marketing,
Selection Panels, and Communications. Among New Voices program
areas, she focuses on Migrant and Refugee Rights and Racial Justice.
So Yeon also serves as a Board member for the National Asian Pacific
American Women’s Forum – DC Chapter.

Natalia
graduated from the University of Massachusetts in September 2000
with a degree in Social Thought Political Economy and Women Studies.
Before joining AED, she worked for the Hispanic Scholarship Fund
Institute helping to award scholarships to Latino/a students and
addressing issues of Hispanic under-representation in the public
sector. She is in charge of developing the New Voices curriculum
and organizing New Voices conferences and retreats. She has also
been in charge of Marketing, Selection Panel, and Communications
for the program. Among New Voices program areas, she focuses on
Women's Rights, Reproductive Rights. Natalia also manages the programs
website. She has a M.A. in Public Policy with a concentration in
Women's Studies from the George Washington University. Natalia also
serves as a Board member for the Third Wave Foundation.
Ken
Williams

Before
joining AED, Ken worked as National Field Director for the federal
Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) grant program,
funded by the U.S. Maternal and Child Health Bureau, through a
five-year contract with Children's National Medical Center. At
the EMSC National Resource Center, he provided technical assistance
to state health departments and university medical centers in
strategic planning, coalition building, and grant writing. He
has extensive experience in grassroots organizing, from previous
work at Handgun Control, Inc., during the Brady Bill and Assault
Weapons Ban campaigns. He was responsible for developing a successful
campaign to persuade Republican Senator John Danforth of Missouri
to vote and publicly advocate for passage of both laws. Ken is
responsible for overall direction and development of the New Voices
program. He organizes discussions of the New Voices Advisory Group
and the annual National Selection Panel. He also develops strategies
related to program marketing, leadership development and mentoring,
and fundraising. He oversees the New Voices Technical Assistance
Program (TAP) and conducts site visits to program grantees.
Ken has Master's degrees
in Philosophy and Religious Studies from Catholic University of
America, with an emphasis on ethics and political philosophy,
socioeconomic justice, Eastern thought, and comparative religion.
In 2004 he was diagnosed with HIV and a disability, but that hasn’t
kept him from living life fully.
